LG Unveils New Blu-ray And HD DVD Dual Drive

By Mendelson Tiu | Monday | 03/12/2007

LG Electronics has announced its new and upgraded versions of its Super Multi Blue drive. The two models include a Blu-ray Disc Rewriter and HD DVD dual format drive, as well as a Blu-ray and HD DVD compatible drive.

LG Electronics' Category Marketing Manager of IT, Janelle Dilger said, "LG remains a leader in providing cutting-edge technology within the digital storage market. We have responded to the increased demand for higher quality optical storage drives by providing consumers with the ability to store and record data in Blu-ray format at an uncontested speed."

The new Super Multi Blue drives take BD and HD DVD dual optical drive to the next level, with the GG-H20L offering BD-R write speed of 6X, and DVD+/-R write speed of 16X. The new Super Multi Blue also reads HD DVD ROM at 3X speed.

The core technologies of Super Multi Blue Drive include Optical Pickup technology which supports Blu-ray disc write/playback, HD DVD playback and DVD/CD write/playback. Optical Pickup is an innovative device supporting both Blu-ray disc write/playback and HD DVD playback. LightScribe is also available for GGW-H20L and GGC-H20L.

Availability and Pricing

The drives will be available in December 2007 and will have an RRP of $999 and $799 for the GGW-H20L and GGC-H20L, respectively.
