Telstra is now offering a car kit for its 165 Country Phone that claims to ‘enhance coverage’ in the bush.

This new car kit comes with a directly coupled external antenna that promises to maximise coverage, especially for those living or travelling in rural and regional parts of Australia, the company says.

Telstra's Country Wide Executive Director, Gary Goldsworthy said, "The Country Phone car kit is the final piece in the puzzle for country customers who want the biggest possible coverage on the Next G network. The Country Phone has already been a big hit in the bush because of its rugged design and pull out antenna that maximises hand held coverage. With the availability of a compatible car kit, the Country Phone is even more suited to the needs of farmers, travelling salespeople, or anyone on the road who needs extended coverage in outlying regions."

Telstra's Product Management Executive Director, Ross Fielding said that the launch of the Country Phone car kit is a reminder to customers about the importance of doing a ‘like for like' upgrade when moving from CDMA to the Next G network.

"It's essential that customers who are currently using accessories to enhance the coverage performance of their CDMA devices also invest in equivalent accessories when they move to the Next G network, If a customer is using a car kit or external antenna with their CDMA device, then they should also use a car kit with an appropriate external antenna with their new Next G handset. A directly coupled car kit, such as the one now available with the Country phone, allows the handset to be directly connected to an antenna on the outside of the vehicle and this maximises coverage on the Next G network," Fielding added.

The Country Phone car kit has a recommended retail price of $529 (outright on no plan) and is available now from Telstra Shops and dealers across Australia.
