Home Phone Handset War Looming As Siemens Enters The Market

By David Richards | Thursday | 22/11/2007

A bitter battle is set to break out in the Australian cordless phone market with the entry of Siemens, the #1 cordless home phone manufacturer in the world. Under threat are Uniden, Panasonic, Telstra and Doro, along with any Asian manufacturer. Siemens claim that they are set to pose a serious threat to the Chinese-dominated market.

Hand made by robots, the Siemens phones are made in Europe and if anyone thinks that the brand's threat to capture a major share of the Australian market is an idle one, think again because these guys are the #1 players in this space in the world.

An example of how good Siemens and their phone range are, is reflected in the fact that after entering the Chinese market in 2003 Siemens , in a space of only 31/2 years, are the #1 manufacturer up against a host of Chinese-made brands.

Siemens have been a major player in cordless handset space since the introduction of the DECT standard for cordless handsets in 1993. The reason for their success they say is their effortless combination of cutting edge design and functionality that has resulted in its positioning as the world's leading supplier of cordless phones. Since its inception, SHC's cordless devices have maintained a leading position in the market, with figures now indicating that the popular Gigaset models are used in one of every two German households.

Thomas Bieg a Senior Director with Siemens Home & Office has spent the last 12 months jetting back and forth from Europe. During that time Siemens had conducted extensive research and are convinced that the market is "ripe" for a European cordless phone offering.
