  iPods Hate Ringing Mobiles

By David Richards | Tuesday | 15/11/2005

Investigations have revealed that the iPod throws a wobbly when placed next to a ringing mobile phone.

Regulators are investigating iPods following complaints that that the devices go "mental" when a a ringing mobile phone is placed next to it. The strange phenomena was first noted at engadget.com and has since been confirmed by its readers across the world.  Apparently when a phone is placed near an iPod the volume suddenly goes to 11 leaving the listener's ear-drums feeling like someone has hammered a six inch nail through them. The problem seems to only effect those later EyePods where the dial was lovingly crafted by Apple themselves.

The problem is being investigated by EU regulators. iPods have a CE certificate on the back of them which means they have been tested for ElectroMagnetic Compatibility (EMC). One of the tests is to throw the nice looking gizmo into a radiated field from 80MHz to 1GHz and if it is effected it can't have the treasured certificate and can't be sold in EU.

That could cause more problems for Apple than the infamous easy-to-scratch screen problem.
