Vodafone Releases iPhone Pricing Similar To Optus

By Branko Miletic | Thursday | 10/07/2008

Vodafone Australia today announced that Apple's iPhone 3G will be available on a range of new caps that it says “reflect expected voice and data usage from launch on July 11”.
According to Vodafone's website, the pricing starts at $69 per month which includes $310 of talk, TXT & more plus 250MB of data per month for the basic personal plan up to the so-called business plan, which is  $169 per month and includes $1200 of talk, TXT & more plus 1Gb of data per month.

These prices seem to compare more or less the same with iPhone rival Optus' pricing, which for the upper end of the pricing scale is charging $179 per month and throws in 1Gb of data but adds $1500 worth of calls and text.

However, apart from differing call costs, one main difference is that the Optus iPhone price starts at a mere $19 for the bottom end of the users scale and Optus seems to be providing more of a choice of plans for the Apple product.

Russell Hewitt, CEO at Vodafone Australia said, "The iPhone 3G is designed for customers who want to download mobile music and entertainment, as well as enjoy mobile email, so we've created caps that realistically cater for that type of data usage".

Since announcing its agreement to sell Apple's iPhone 3G in Australia, Vodafone says it has been "inundated by customers who have pre-registered their interest in the device online.

However as of today, Vodafone will begin inviting pre-registered
customers to agree to a 24-month contract and purchase their own iPhone 3G from a reserved allocation of iPhone 3G stocks, which will be available at more than 800 retail outlets, according to Vodafone.
