The BlackBerry Pearl has a range of features including phone, email, messaging, organiser, browser and multimedia applications. Its multimedia features include a 2 megapixel camera with flash, zoom, as well as video recording to capture memories whilst on the move. It also supports thousands of third-party mobile lifestyle and business applications.

"We …expect the launch of the new BlackBerry Pearl Flip to appeal to [a wide range of the] market with its blend of flexibility, design and functionality," said Phil McDermott, Head of Product Marketing, Optus SMB. "Optus is very excited to be launching this device exclusively to our customers."

The BlackBerry Pearl Flip smartphone's enhanced HTML browser displays web pages beautifully in either Column View or Page View and different emulation settings allow users to choose between desktop-style HTML content and the mobile version of web pages. With its built-in Wi-Fi, the BlackBerry Pearl Flip also allows users to access enterprise wireless networks and Wi-Fi hotspots.

The BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8220 smartphone will be available exclusively to Optus customers from the end of October 2008 and can be purchased for $0 upfront on the business or consumer BlackBerry $79 Cap plan.
