  Philips Launches VoIP Phones

By Caroline Warnes | Monday | 28/08/2006

Philips has teamed up with Skype and Microsoft to launch two Internet/DECT phones.

The phones – the VOIP321 and VOIP433 – are a response to the increasing need for immediate access to digital content, according to Philips managing director Matthew Moran.

The VOIP321 (RRP $129.95 for one handset or $199.95 for two handsets) is a cordless phone with DECT digital voice quality. Users can either make free Skype calls via a broadband Internet connection or make ordinary landline calls using the low-rate SkypeOut service.

It consists of a base station, which connects to a regular phone outlet and to a USB PC socket. Features include hands-free speakerphone and caller ID.

Meanwhile, the VOIP433 (RRP $159.95 for one handset or $249.95 for two handsets) operates on the same principle using the Microsoft Windows Live Messenger service.

The VOIP433 also includes a colour screen so users can see whether their contacts are online or not.
