  Onkyo Goes Two Channel

By Ty Pendlebury | Thursday | 30/03/2006

After many years of producing home theatre components, Onkyo has returned to its hi-fi roots and released a new range of two-channel devices.

There are three components in Onkyo's affordable new range, and these are the DX-7555 CD player, and the A-9555 and A-9755 stereo amplifiers.

"The industry is experiencing a surge of interest in music playback through high quality two channel systems. These products fill that bill perfectly", said David Small, marketing manager of distributor Audioworks.

The CD player features a Wolfson Microelectronics WM8740 192 kHz/24-bit DAC, a user-configurable digital clock frequency to "finetune sonic imaging", a direct signal path, and Onkyo's VLSC (Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry) for a noiseless, smooth analogue signal based on the digital source.

The DX-7555 plays both audio CDs and MP3 CDs, features 2 digital outputs (Optical/Coaxial), and a headphone jack with volume control. It's available now for $1099.

Both the  A-9555 (200 W) and A-9755 (250W) stereo amplifiers feature audiophile features such as Pure Stream Power Supply using two large-capacity transformers for lightning-fast transient response, discrete CR-type phono equalizer circuitry for better treble response, highly rigid, anti-resonant chassis, fitted with brass stabilisers. Both amps are also RI-compatible, ensuring they can be used with Onkyo's DS-A1 iPod dock.

The A-9555 is available for $1299, while the A-9755 retails for $1999.
