Other contenders for the top-end, in-ear headphone crown are Sennheiser, Shure, Audio Technica and equally new operator Klipsh. We can also reveal that early next week Sennheiser will roll out three brand new premium priced in-ear models called the IE 6, IE 7 and a flagship model the IE 8 that comes with a tiny screwdriver so you can physically alter the shape of the diaphragm inside the earphone in order to tune bass more to your liking. They will sell for between $400 and $900.
At a press launch today in Sydney Nick Angelucci the Product & Marketing Manager at Logitech Australia said, "we know it's going to be tough but have a stunning product and we are comfortable that we can sell the product in this market. The first models will go on sale in Dick Smith. We are also talking to JB Hi Fi and will look at the specialist Hi Fi channel." When asked about the use of the Logitech name he said "we will be marketing them as Ultimate Ears a Logitech Company. We believe this will work for us. As a Company. Logitech has done an excellent job of growing aquisition Companies. Harmony Remotes is a classic example. With this product we are now the #1 universal remote control Company in the world."
While the Ultimate brand is well known in the USA and among a lot of global musicians it is not known in Australia and this will be a big issue for Logitech said Wayne Farren the Marketing Manager for Syntec the distributors of the German Sennheiser range in Australia.
