"Dyson's Handheld Vacuum Sucks"
By Mendelson Tiu | Published:29/11/2007
Most vacuum cleaners (including handheld ones) have a problem of losing suction power as the bag or filter fills up with dirt. Dyson claims that its handheld vacuum cleaner has twice the suction power of other handhelds and maintains its power all throughout. So we know it 'sucks', but is that enough to make it a product worth recommending? Click to enlarge |
The Motorhead DC16 comes with four attachments, a battery pack, and a charging dock that can be mounted to the wall. The main unit weighs 1.73kg, resembles a nail gun, and is mostly made out of hard plastic in order to withstand accidental knocks or bumps. An LED battery indicator is located beside the ‘one-touch' emptying switch, telling you when it is time to recharge the unit. There is no on/off switch for this unit but instead uses a trigger system to start/stop the vacuum. To get started, users must first charge the device for three hours. The LED will turn from red to green once the battery is fully charged, telling users when the unit is good to go.

Could have been heaps better!!!
Pros: Has great suction!
Cons: Can't charge battery without the vacuum cleaner unit!
I've just bought one of these handheld vacuum cleaners and much as it's an inovative design, it does have some numerous short comings too! - The silly plastic catch on the clear tub for example!....How long will it last before the plastic bends no more and breaks? Why hasn't Mr. Dyson made a DC - DC converter in the form (Shape) of the battery, with a cigar lighter plug and cable attached, to enable constant use in a car or boat? (He could market it as an optional accessory) A simple trigger lock to save constant depression on the on/off button would have been good too! The charger base should have been made to mount flat rather than edge wise on the wall and it should have been made possible to charge the battery alone (Without the need for the whole vacuum cleaner body!) This would enable charging of a spare battery whilst the vacuum cleaner is in use! Come on James!....What are you and your design team doing??? I hope this review helps - Cheers Rick from Oz
