"Simple Point And Shoot Canon Camera For Starters"

By Mendelson Tiu | Published:07/11/2008

The PowerShot A1000 IS from Canon may not be the best looking camera around, but it surely knocks out the competition with its features.

This point and shoot comes with 4x zoom, an optical image stabiliser to prevent blurred photos, a 10-megapixel sensor, a powerful image processing engine, various shooting modes, as well as a 2.5-inch screen for easy photo and video review.

The A1000 is part of Canon's Slim and Easy range, which claims to offer ‘point and shoot simplicity and superb technology in a slim and compact body.' It is made out of hard plastic and sports a black and silver finish, adding a touch of style and toughness to the camera. In addition, the package contains two AA Alkaline batteries, a memory card, USB and AV cables, a wrist strap, and a CD containing Canon's "Digital Camera Solution."

In order to provide users with a simple to use camera, Canon has only placed a limited number of controls on the A1000. On top of the unit, users can find the Power button, Mode Dial, Shutter Button, and Zoom Lever, while the Tripod Socket and Memory Card/Battery Compartment can be found on the bottom.
