"Altec Lansing Speakers Too Bass-Driven"
By Mendelson Tiu | Published:18/12/2008
No more space-hogging subwoofer that sits on the floor! Altec Lansing puts all the bass you need in ‘half the space’ with its new speakers. The Expressionist Bass has two powerful down-firing subwoofers built into the base of each speaker, giving you that ‘oomph’ for any connected audio source. Click to enlarge |
The Altec Lansing Expressionist Bass FX3022 looks like a road cone, but with more panache. Despite the fact that its glossy, piano black finish is prone to fingerprints, it still adds a touch of elegance to the speakers. Users can find the power and volume buttons on top of the right speaker, with the power button lighting up when the unit is on. The unit has no bundled remote, which means that users would have to stand up or reach over to adjust the volume. Setting up the unit only entails hooking up the source (such as a notebook, PC, or MP3 player) to the speaker via its input or AUX port and plugging the unit into a wall outlet. The speakers are hard-wired to each other, so users don't have to worry about hooking it up together.

Bugger the rating these are HOT!
Pros: Space Saver that look and sound amazing
Cons: No Bass and Treble control.
From when i first saw them on the shelves at JB last week, i knew the new Altec Lansing had something serious to say about thier new invention. This is my third product from Altec ( IM600, T612 and now the FX3022). and i was sick of putting a sub below my desk, and have it collect dust just for some bass. These actually work as a 2.2 the way they are designed. The Bass is awesome, and the fact that there is no remote aint a problem, because i only ever use the volume control from my keyboard. They look like an expensinve piece of furniture with some mighty grunt and look totally different to all other 2.0/2.1 speakers out there. No Bass or treble control can be painful when i listen to different music, but on the whole, they crap all over the Logi Z-2300, which i had to return 2 times, for looks as well as clarity. Might not be as loud, but just as bassy, after all Altec dont make keyboards and mice, just speakers. Bye Bye Logi, welcome the new Altec! |

Perfect Speaker for a Bachelor Pad
Pros: AWESOME in its AWESOMENESS
Cons: None
This is a great unit, am really happy with it. Saw them in Harvey Norman and theought it looked like a Dalek! But managed to get a listen of these speakers and was hooked. The sub-woofer is at the base and can really pound out the tunes. I have an inner city apartment and these are perfect for the surroundings. I recently had a party for friends and these new trendy looking speakers became the talking point for most of the night. My mates couldnt believe the power in these speakers. They also compliment my furniture and add a bit of chic to the place, instead of the tinnny generic speakers that are a dime a dozen in RetailLand. These babies have a kind of Euro-cool look to them and at a very reasonable price. They must be good as the neighbours knocked on the door twice to tell me to turn the sound down. Love 'em. Good on you Altec, bitchin' speakers! |
