  Five Km Wireless Antenna

By Peter Diversi | Friday | 03/02/2006

Av Labs has introduced a wireless antenna that can be used up to five kilometres away from a home or office PC.

Popular with farmers, security experts and voyeurs, it is used with a wireless camera to monitor video capture and also files, phone numbers, and emails. It also comes in handy for mobile Internet access.

The antenna which is about 15 cm high is a simple do-it-yourself outfit that has a shorter antenna cable that minimises gain loss and provides higher transmission efficiency.

Av Labs say that the antenna can withstand temperatures from -15 to 65 degrees Celsius  and it delivers a huge 802.11g and 108Mbps. Another of antenna's features allows performance monitoring by logging onto its diagnostic program.

Audion is AV Labs' local distributor. Audion's Jamie Mitchell said "It's great for remote monitoring when away from a house. People, including even farmers, are becoming more technically minded and find the wireless antenna works really well for them".

Cost: $600
