Building A Greener Home On A Budget

By Mendelson Tiu | Thursday | 26/07/2007

If you think that living a ‘greener’ lifestyle will cost you an arm and a leg, think again. Your Abode claims to combine the disciplines of interior design, architectural design and construction, providing homeowners with fresh and innovative solutions for their renovated or new house, without the associated price tag.

This will result to a practical and cost-effective environmental focus, the company says.

Your Abode's Design and Construction Director, Darryn Parkinson said, "We are the middle ground between an architect and a builder and we offer an integrated and complete residential design service - including interior design plus project management and construction. Good environmental design is all about creating spaces that are healthy for you to live in, as well as being good for the environment. We do this by designing spaces to be comfortable all year round and by making use of environmentally friendly materials, finishes and fittings."

Passionate about solar and sustainable design, Darryn Parkinson and Your Abode Interior Design Director partner, Sharon Hamilton, are members of an environmentally friendly group called ‘1% for the planet' even offering their clients the opportunity to offset carbon produced during construction.

"We believe that greening your home should not be an all or nothing approach. People will want to ‘green' their homes to varying degrees. They should not feel they are not making an effort, if, for example, they don't have solar panels or 5-star appliances. Ultimately we believe we can help by educating people and providing them with information so they can make informed choices," Mr. Parkinson added.

Hamilton said, "At Your Abode the basis of all our designs is to build upon your needs and wants - using our experience and expertise to ask the right questions and find the best design solutions."
