  Smart Microwave Technology Saves Time

By Manisha Kanetkar | Wednesday | 05/07/2006

Whirlpool has created a new range of smart microwaves that allow you to cook everything from a chicken roast to a chocolate cake in record time.

The top of the line built-in model (AMW540IX) features a convection forced air system – making it suitable for cooking cakes, roasts or biscuits, a tube grill for grilling steaks, fish or toasted cheese, and a crisp plate for browning pies or cooking bacon and eggs. Whirlpool claims the crisp plate can heat up to 210 degrees Celsius within two minutes and remain constant.

The microwave also features Whirlpool's 3D system, which claims to provide even microwave distribution, so you don't have to use the turntable. Whirlpool said this is achieved by a specially shaped deflector which deflects the two microwave streams, creating a third energy wave (most microwaves only have two) for completely surround, more intense cooking.

The top end model also features a steam function and a ‘6th sense' function, which when selected, automatically assesses your food and adjusts the cooking temperature and time for you. There is also a jet defrost function, which Whirlpool guarantees will defrost 500g of mince perfectly in exactly 2 minutes and 24 seconds!

According to the company, the microwave can also cook pizza in 11 minutes, biscuits in four minutes and a roast chicken (1.2kg) in 28 minutes.  Looks like the term ‘microwave cooking' no longer has to refer simply to reheating Lean Cuisines!
