Z-Wave Wireless Calls For New Industry Standard

By Sarah Falson | Thursday | 10/01/2008

A consortium based in the US but open to companies worldwide is ramping up its presence at the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas this year, moving to establish Z-Wave as the new international standard in wireless controls for the home.

An interactive Z-Wave wireless home is now on show at the event, demonstrating a range of Z-Wave-enabled products and a new fourth-generation Z-Wave chipset.

According to Z-Wave developer, Zensys, the new chipset is "groundbreaking" and will expand the company's offerings into the consumer electronics market by providing low-cost solutions to meet industry demand.

The Z-Wave alliance added nine new member companies throughout 2007, and is rapidly building momentum, according to Zensys, which is located on booth #20419 at CES.

"There are now more than 200 interoperable products on the market and more than 170 companies representing 18 countries in the Z-Wave Alliance," said Z-Wave alliance chairman, Mark Walters.
