Banned Freeview Video Reappears On New Web Sites

By David Richards | Monday | 09/03/2009

Rejected by TV manufacturers as being “irrelevant” Freeview has been forced to seek application to You Tube to have a video taken down which mocked their plan to launch new HD TV channels of which 12 of the claimed 15 new channels are already available in Australia.

YouTube has removed what has been described a "pisstake video" after Freeview which is a brand name used by the free to air TV stations in Australia to promote dubious new digital TV channels claimed that the video that was posted to You Tube by Dan Ilic, a freelance filmmaker and comedian, and Triple J presenter Marc Fennell breached their copyright.

The satire video used footage from Freeview's ads but with a different voice over. Now the video is popping up on web sites all over the wordl/ It describes Freeview as delivering no add skipping and the ability to watch programs that go to air 20 minutes late. They also claim that  the idea for the Freeview marketing trailer was stolen from Ford.

The video also claims that TV manufacturers "don't give a sh*t about Freeview" and that programs Freeview is spruiking can be seen on four channels at the same time.

Apparently the pair used footage shot by Freeview to promote their new service which is due to be launched on May 1 2009.

Last week Freeview was shopping around for an advertising agency to officially launch Freeview which the TV industry has already rejected as not being a benefit for consumer.

Critics from within the consumer electronics industry and the TV manufacturing  industry have dubbed Freeview  "a giant marketing ploy" aimed at hindering consumers ability to remove TV commercials after they have been recorded to a set top box or storage device.
