According to GFK figures for week 27, Samsung who are already delivering plasma TV's with a 40% reduction in power useage have made further inroads into Sony's TV market share by snaring over 42% of the Australian TV market and are now set to take Sony on with a new generation of energy efficent TV's including a new 32" pure LED TV that uses up to 50% less power than previous LCD models.

Sony's share of the LCD TV market based on sales of their Bravia LCD TV's has slipped from over 30% in 2008 to less than 15% in 2009.

Kurt Jovias Marketing Director for Samsung said "We are comfortable with where we are. We have new energy efficent TV's coming and we have recently launched a 32" LED TV that is benchmark for energy efficent  TV's" 

Samsung said that they will spend over $5Billion  between now and 2013 as part of an initiative to develop new energy-efficient products and halve carbon emissions from its factories by 2013.

The consumer electronics giant today unveiled its Eco-Management 2013 plan yesterday claiming that the Korean giant will, deliver the highest levels of efficiency in the consumer electronics industry.

Under the plan, standby power consumption on many products will also be halved from 1W to just half a watt, while the company has said it will work to identify new recyclable and organic materials that could be used in the manufacture of consumer products such as laptops and mobile phones.

Meanwhile, $1.8B will be invested in halving greenhouse gas emissions from Samsung manufacturing plants.

The company said the new investment program will focus on reducing the level of industrial halogenated gases used in its LCD and semiconductor production lines, and improving energy management systems at all its factories.
