Displaybank said by 2015, 3D displays will account for 9.2% of the total display market. The research firm indicated that 3D display is already utilized for medical or CAD use, with its share of the total 2008 display market at only 0.1% in terms of shipment value.
The technology was recently applied in LCD TV applications as well. Samsung Electronics has applied 3D technology in some PDP TV products and recorded more than 100,000 units in sales, Displaybank said.
Sarah Han, a researcher at Displaybank, said that the transition to HD or full HD TV provides for a more realistic 3D display and issues such as visual fatigue which occur when observing the display for long periods of time are gradually being resolved.
The 3D display market may expand even more quickly if related 3D content development gets faster, Han said.
