  Samsung Developing Art TV

By David Richards | Wednesday | 04/06/2008

Samsung is going all "Arty" with a new TV that will switch between digitally mastered art works and a normal TV.

The prototype TV currently under development will come with 1080p resolution, a 40 gigabyte (GB) hard drive, 500-nit brightness level and 3000:1 contrast ratio, with an eight millisecond response time.

A KinKade painting

According to the EE Times, the Company has collaborated with The Thomas Kinkade Company to develop the prototype which will come with a digital art display system. User will be able to shift between the digital artwork and TV program at a moment's notice. For those who have never heard of Thomas Kincade he is America's most collected living artist. Coming from a modest background, Kinkade claims that he emphasizes simple pleasures and inspirational messages through his paintings.

Scott Birnbaum, vice president of Samsung's LCD Business said  ''Imagine having a piece of museum-quality fine art right above your mantle and then as you sink into the couch instantly switch to American Idol, the latest sports playoffs, or a Blu-ray action movie at the touch of a button," said. ''The Thomas Kinkade Company is planning to produce a trend-setting combination of two of the most unlikely partners in visual entertainment -- fine art and electronic programming."
