Sony Launch 11" Obscene OLED TV

By David Richards | Tuesday | 07/04/2009

Sony who are wallowing in losses are again trying to price gouge money from Australian consumers with the release of their 11" XEL -1 OLED display screen at the obscene price of $6,999. This is a staggering $3,520 more expensive than the same model on sale in Sony Style store in the US.

For exactly the same price that Sony is trying to charge for their 11" OLED screen consumers can next month go out and buy the stunning new Samsung 8000 Full HD LED TV that has a next generation 200MHz management system and a new Internet content system. The new Samsung LED technology also allows users to save up to 40 percent less power than a conventional TV.

As the first journalist in the world to review the Sony 11" XEL -1 and after seeing the new Samsung 8000 yesterday in Sydney he output quality of the 8000 LED screen is equal to the Sony OLED offering which means that there will be a big battle soon between OLED and LED TV technology.

Set for a late April release the XEL-1, is more gimmick than practical home TV and any consumers who buys one at the ridiculous price of $6,999 has got to have more money than sense.

The screen that is only going to be sold at Sony Centre Stores and online at www.sony.com.au has an contrast ratio of more than 1,000,000:1. This allows the screen to achieve a very bright output.
