  Panasonic Enter Wii Gaming Market

By David Richards | Monday | 18/02/2008

Panasonic is set to snare a share of the game console market by bringing out a Wii proof plasma TV for use with a Nintendo Wii games console.

The company designed the set after reports of screens being smashed when the Wii Remote flew out of gamers' hands. The remote features motion-sensing technology which players use as a virtual racket when playing tennis games, for example.

Panasonics new set is designed to absorb a hit on the screen with up to four Joules of kinetic energy, thanks to a special transparent coating sprayed on the screen.

Sounds like a good unique selling point for Panasonic, although the wrist strap that comes with the Wii remote seems a simpler solution.

Panasonic has not yet released details on pricing or availability of the Wii-proof set.

Other manufacturers are also coming up with products to protect screens from Wii remote damage - a Taiwanese manufacturer has designed a specialist LCD TV Wii shield.
