By Mike Wheeler | Friday | 06/06/2008

We have taken a look at a range of LCD and Plasma TVs in the market and have reviewed them, even performing various head-to-head tests to find out how they fares against each other. Now, SmartHouse picks out which LCDs and Plasma screens are well worth the purchase.

TH-65PZ700A

RRP $12,999
It's not quite as large as a projector screen, but with 65-inches of pure picture quality, your movie, HD TV and sport watching will be well sated by this Panasonic plasma. It's well-specced, with three HDMIs, one on the front for easy connection with a HD camcorder or similar. Of course, as one would expect of such a beast, it offers full HD 1080p picture resolution when fed with a 1080p feed.

LCD TV technology has seen a real improvement recently with the introduction of 100Hz technology. This means that fast motion (such as sporting matches etc) can be captured fluidly – meaning one of these in your living room will make you an instant hit with your mates over the Olympic period.

RRP $4,399
When we first took a look at this TV, the rest of the office kept walking past and exclaiming how the people in the movie on the screen seemed to jump out at them. And it's true, the image processing is excellent – creating very realistic pictures. This Bravia is definitely one of the best we've seen from Sony so far.

Another 100Hz LCD TV makes the ranks in the SmartHouse Trio Awards, and this Panasonic is a beauty. At a very reasonable price the company gives you more than decent HD picture quality (though it's best to mention it's not full 1080p HD). On our test, though, we found you'd barely know the difference.
