  New Logitech Squeezebox Unveiled

By Manisha Kanetkar | Monday | 02/07/2007

Logitech has announced the release of the latest version of the network music player system Squeezebox.

Slim Devices, which originally manufactured the Squeezebox music management system was acquired by Logitech about six months ago. The new Squeezebox unveiled today is essentially the same product as that which previously went under the Slim Devices brand, but with the new Logitech branding and colouring instead.

The Logitech Squeezebox transmits digital music stored on a PC to a stereo, through Wi-Fi or cables. (It features built-in 802.11g and an Ethernet port for this.)

It plays a range of music file formats including mp3, WAV, FLAC, WMA Lossless, WMA, Apple Lossless, AAC and Ogg Vorbis.

The device will also provide access to thousands of internet radio stations, and it even works when the PC is switched off via the SqueezeNetwork.

Its display shows track titles, artists and menus so you can browse by genre, artist or playlist, or randomly mix up your tunes, the company says.

Also featuring high fidelity Bur-Brown 24-bit DAC, the Logitech Squeezebox has an aqua blue VFD display with graphic visualizers and features an inbuilt alarm clock.

We conducted a review of the Squeezebox (while it was still under the old brand) earlier this year which you can find here.

RRP: $499
