Get More From Your iPad With iRoom

By Tony Ibrahim | Monday | 29/10/2012

Few products have been innovative, powerful and influential enough to inspire the resurgence of a category, but Apple's iPad has. It has taken the ethos of traditional computing, implanted it into mobile-friendly tablet form and masked it with software that is easy-to-use.

Even though it remains the beacon of tablet mobility, it continues to play a prominent role in the home and office. In households it's adored for its ability to seamlessly manage home entertainment systems, its high quality Facetime calls and its plugged-in bravado when it comes to using social media, while it's lauded in the commercial space for a number of applications, ranging from the cataloguing of inventory to its ability to make complex videoconferencing simple.

Integrating this valuable piece of hardware into either environment is one way of optimising how we use the iPad, and at present the only company in the world building motorised in-wall docks is iRoom.

Their range currently consists of a manually operated dock in portrait profile and 4 motorised docks. Following the manual dock is a motorised portrait dock that benefits from a no-contact relay and RCA outputs. The RCA outputs are a grand inclusion as they enable the iPad to be used as a music source with a building's in-built sound system.

Landscape docks follow, adding to the feature-set notifications and built-in security access. The Touchcode model has a built in keypad, but all motorised docks from iRoom have security features for the installer to setup via no-contact relay.

In the event of power or mechanical failure, the iDock puts into effect its contingency plan of automatically opening; however, this nominal option can be disabled for security reasons.

When the time comes for you to upgrade to Apple's new iPad, you don't have to replace your existing iDock. Instead, iRoom's team in Austria engineer adaptors and solutions to bridge the gap between the current and future technologies.

Additionally, the docks are supported by budget and premium automation companies alike and, when combined with an iPad, can replace their complicated proprietary touch panels which range from $3,000 to $20,000 in cost. In fact, many businesses choose to install them in desks and lecterns to streamline employee productivity.

The iDocks come in piano black and opal white. Brushed aluminum and anodised black faceplates are also available and for volume customers, the iDock can be made almost any colour thanks to iRoom's flexible production facility in Salzburg, Austria.

Telstra, NRMA and the newly refurbished Park Hyatt hotel in Sydney (above) are just some of the big names that have installed iRoom iDocks to house their iPads over the past 12 months.
