Snazzy LG French Door-In-door Fridge Opens

By Oonagh Reidy | Thursday | 16/08/2012

One in four of us have fridge envy.

So LG is looking to quench this jealousy by launching Australia's first Door-in-Door refrigerator range.

There are three stainless steel French Door-In-door fridges in the range including: Premium Depth, Counter Depth and Side by Side models.

However, the double door fridges don't come cheap, starting at $4599 for the Premium Door-in-Door model with a massive 907Ltr capacity - the largest volume full French door fridge available.

The Counter Depth model costs $4299, and the Side by Side model $3299.

The counter depth and side by side fridges have less capacity than the hero at 730 and 659 litre capacity.

So what's so unique Door-in-Door technology that LG is looking to woo us with?

"Design, style and convenience are at the heart of the unique Door-in-Door technology," according to LG, who say they are "redefining the market" with the new French range.

LG's dual access door system can be opened with the push of a button and of the main advantages of the Door-in-Door system is the most used items can be stored in the front door, while larger, less used items in the second fridge at the back, so less time scanning the fridge for food.

The refrigeration market has declined 4.8% but the French door format has actually accelerated 26% compared to a year ago, says LG.

Less opening and shutting doors also allows for the optimum temperature to be maintained in the main fridge.

You can also prioritise the food by date, said Fiona Irving, LG's Corporate Marketing Manager, at the unveiling of the range this morning at the Sydney Opera House, with the help of celebrity chef Matt Moran who talked up the models, as did LG's brand ambassador Georgie Parker.

"I'm thrilled to be working with LG on the launch of the Door-in-Door range of refrigerators. In my household we are constantly stocking our fridge; it is always bursting with fresh produce," said Parker.

The full Door-in-Doors are a deal for large households, regular entertainers or just people who have a lot of food.

The model SmartHouse was shown had 5 glass shelves and 2 ice boxes on the left side and 4 shelves and three bigger ice boxes on the right, and not to mention bulky shelves on the inner (and outer) doors for 3 litre bottles and milk cartons.

In other words its a pretty damn big fridge.

"LG has long been committed to delivering outstanding refrigerators that help customers enjoy greater levels of convenience in their lives and ensure that food stays fresh for as long as possible," said Fiona Irving, Corporate Marketing Manager, LG Australia.

The LG Premium model (GR-D907SL, $4,599) French Door Fridge is massive at 907 litres- and that's over 100 litres more than the rival French Door Fridge, and has a width of 908mm, (so can fit within a 920mm wide kitchen cavity).

It also has an internal 832mm width - perfect for fitting extra wide platters .

And the French Door Fridge line looks smart with a sleek stainless steel finish.

Other features on the range include: Slim Indoor Ice Maker on the door, temperature controlled pantry drawer to adjust the temperature depending on what is being stored- between -1C° for meats to 3C° for vegetables, and Pure N Fresh Filter that circulates air and deodorisers the fridge, and LED lighting.

It also has a three layered freezer organisation which Matt Moran said is crucial as the freezer becomes an ever more important feature on any fridge.

"The size of the back compartment and convenience of the first door allows for everything to stay fresh and organised throughout our busy week. I especially love the temperature controlled draws, as I find it keeps our vegies fresher for longer." said Georgie Parker, LG Home Appliance Ambassador.
