A Fridge…With Wi-Fi?

By Oonagh Reidy | Friday | 30/11/2012

Ok, we've heard of Wifi on phones and tablets, but now Samsung has slapped it on the humble fridge.

Meet Samsung's Smart Refrigerators with WiFi.

Samsung has unveiled its new Smart Series Refrigerator (SRF800WGDLS) with WiFi - a French Door model that features an 8-inch LCD touchscreen with eight apps built-in.

The apps range from Google Calendar to a Grocery manager which helps users do clever things like keep track of food stored, plan meals and store recipes.

But it gets better.

You can even sync your Google calendar with your compatible Android phone, check Twitter, get news and weather updates and store photos on your four door 801 litre fridge.

Storage wise, it has controlled drawers: counter-height drawer, 4-temperature zones in middle drawer (-1ºC meat/fish, 1ºC chilled beer, 3ºC deli/snack, 5ºC wine/ready to serve) and a flexi drawer.

Other features include: Safety Glass Shelving, LED Lighting, EZ Open Freezer Handles, Layered Steel Finish, Flexible Capacity, Energy rating 2.0 stars.

"We recognize at Samsung that our customers want smarter home appliances to complement their lives," said Mike Lilly, Samsung Head of Home Appliances

"The new Smart Series Refrigerator extends the way we connect by helping busy families organize, plan and share through its smart applications for the fridge.

The french door fridge has four doors finished in layered steel.

However, smart doesn't come cheap, the new Samsung Smart Series Refrigerator is available now for RRP $4,999 through Harvey Norman only.

By comparison, LG is selling Premium Door-in-Door model for $4599, but it has no WiFi.

Samsung is also offering a 10 year parts warranty on Digital Inverter Compressor.
