As noted by LG, when compared with official Australian Bureau of Statistics figures, the refrigerator-owner relationship often exceeds the typical marriage partnership of 8.4 years, while LG's survey additionally reveals that 18 per cent of people didn't think they needed to replace their fridge for more than 15 years.
Brad Reed, LG Australia home appliance marketing manager, noted that while a perception exists that a refrigerator purchase is a big expense, when taking into account the average life span of a refrigerator "the purchase is actually an excellent long-term investment".
"What's more, when you consider that engagement rings can often reach thousands of dollars, depending on couples' collective tastes, the price of an LG fridge, which ranges anywhere from approximately $800 to nearly $6,000, seems like a smart option," Reed commented.
"The relationship with your fridge is not as dissimilar to that of your life partner as you might think, and finding the right one for you is the most important thing of all.
"Just like when entering into a new relationship, it's vital to do your research and think carefully about what you really want to get out of your final selection - after all, it's likely to be with you for many years."
As the survey reveals, refrigerators are clearly in for the long haul.
"Although there are clearly some things that a fridge can't do, you can be guaranteed that it will be there for you, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health," Reed stated.
