JVC's Action Cam: Ready, Willing & Able

Has JVC cracked the action cam formula?

The instructions on how to setup JVC's action cam are as follows:
1. Take out of box
2. Switch on

That's pretty much it.

Most of the action cams in its class are companion devices designed to be used with a smartphone, tablet or computer. JVC's action cam, known as the Adixxion, differs by featuring an on board screen, a higher tolerance to water and a rugged body.

The 1.5 inch LCD monitor is found on its side and proves ideal in watching your recordings as you go, gauging the camera angle and navigating the menu. If you're sport of choice is white-water rafting, dirt-track riding or anything else messy, you don't want to whip out your smartphone—a device prone to extreme elements— to change the quality or review footage. With JVC's Adixxion, you'll never have to.

Further setting the Adixxion apart from the pack is its rugged body. Rival action cameras can plunge to impressive depths with their waterproof case, but the Adixxion doesn't need an outfit to withstand waters 5 metres deep. Looking to make a good thing better, JVC is working on a tailored waterproof case which will take it into waters up to 40 metres deep.

Even on land, this action cam boasts a high tolerance to rugged terrain. Its body has been engineered to withstand the shock of a two metre fall and not having to encase it in a cumbersome outfit makes it easier to take around.

The camera supports a variety of video resolutions, including 1080p, 960p, 720p and 480p at 30 frames per second. High Definition (720p) videos can also be captured at a smoother 60 frames per second.

Still photos appear expansive complements of its Super Wide Angle lens and are captured at a reputable 5 megapixels. Five times digital zoom makes it possible to get up close to a subject while Time-Lapse recording can be used to capture a day's activities one frame at a time without taxing the memory.

Reliving your close calls is as easy as plugging the camera into a HDMI compatible TV, but the real value comes from the Adixxion's versatile use of WiFi. With WiFi enabled, footage can be uploaded directly to Facebook, Twitter and Youtube; files can be transferred wirelessly to your smartphone or PC; and you can control the Adixxion remotely from your iOS or Android smartphone.

Stream exciting scenes to a PC via mobile hotspot or a Wi-Fi connection. This means Adixxion is also a high-definition webcam.

JVC's Adixxion is available now for a recommended retail price of $229.
