|Eurogamer has reported sources as confirming that the NX will be a portable, handheld console with detachable controllers.|
According to the report, the NX's screen will sit between two controller sections, capable of being attached and detached, while a base unit, or dock station, will be used to connect the NX to a TV.
Eurogamer additionally reports multiple sources as stating that game cartridges will be the choice of physical media.
The NX will be powered by Nvidia's Tegra processor, Eurogamer reports multiple sources as confirming, with development kits currently using the Tegra X1 chip.
Should Nintendo go portable with the NX, it will be branching out into new territory, providing a point of differentiation from Sony's PlayStation 4 and Microsoft's Xbox One, and potentially offering the best of both worlds in terms of portability and stay-at-home gaming.
Certainly, the gaming market has evolved at pace in line with smartphone take-up, and it may well be that Nintendo is set to stake out profitable middle ground with the NX.
The NX is slated for launch in March next year, with Eurogamer reporting that the console is set to be unveiled in September.
