|The new T-Box box, tipped to launch next month, has been described as an interim digital set top box with Telstra set to move to a new Q3 box that will be launched jointly with Foxtel in 2014.|
The T-Box 2 will be replaced by the Q3 box.
The new set top box offering will have a 500GB drive as opposed to the current 320GB drive, it will also have a slim, "long" remote after research revealed that users did not like the current "stumpy" remote describing it as too small and "difficult" to use.
Last year Telstra's TV revenues grew by 1% to $333 million, driven primarily by IPTV content, BigPond Movies and Foxtel on T- Box.
Sources inside Telstra have told SmartHouse the new device "is an interim box" that is being introduced in an effort to grow their customer base prior to launch of a "joint" box with Foxtel.
It is not known whether Telstra has reached agreement with movie studios to launch first run movies for the T-Box 2.
