Yamaha Deliver 7.1 True Channels From A SoundBar

By Tony Ibrahim | Monday | 10/12/2012

Yamaha was the first to identify the need for a space saving entertainment system capable of producing theatrical sound. They tended to this need by introducing the soundbar category back in 2005, and they've been at the forefront of it ever since.

Their latest offering, the YSP-4300, solidifies their leading home theatre technologies into one elegantly styled soundbar. Inside its shallow body are 22 array speakers—of which two are 6.5cm woofers—engineered to produce realistic sound. A wireless 130 watt subwoofer ensures low end frequencies are justly played, while keeping your room's decorum intact.

Don't be fooled by the YSP-4300's sleek exterior because this is one soundbar that delivers enveloping sound. It interprets high definition formats in the same fashion a multichannel system does, designating different frequencies to particular speakers. It then fires precise sound beams in various directions that, ultimately, converge upon the listener in seven directions, resulting in a true—and not virtual—7.1 channel experience.

Understanding that every room has unique acoustic properties, Yamaha include an IntelliBeam microphone. It automatically identifies the best beam angles and optimises the level and frequency response of each beam, making it the electronic equivalent of a tuning fork.

Next generation 4K content and televisions are on the horizon, and when the time comes to upgrade your existing TV, the YSP-4300 will be ready, willing and able, compliments of its 4K Pass-Through and 3D HDMI connectivity.

More often than not, the long, sleek soundbar will be placed in front of your television, perhaps covering the infrared receiver your remote communicates with. To avoid a situation where the YSP-4300 interrupts your remote's signal, it features an on board repeater that ensures a line of sight to your TV. For further convenience, the 4300 will communicate with your existing TVs remote, provided it is HDMI CEC compatible.

Yamaha has treated music playback with the same resolve. When music is saved as an MP3 file, it is digitally compressed at the expense of sound quality. The YSP-4300 uses software designed to enhance compressed music for a faithful front-row experience.

Music can be played from your smartphone or computer easily. Included in the box is a wireless transmitter compatible with Apple's iPhone, iPad or iPod, along with Windows and Macintosh computers. By plugging it in, high fidelity music can be streamed through the 4300's high quality speakers.

The music shouldn't have to stop when your battery runs low. By plugging your smartphone into the YSP-4300, you can recharge your device and keep the party going. Alternatively, the USB port comes in handy when you want to play your music collection from a hard disk or USB stick.

Through clever software, powerful speakers and elegant craftsmanship, the YSP-4300 earns its right to don Yamaha's tuning-fork logo. Yamaha's musical heritage—right down to its instrument DNA—subtly shines through the 4300's plutonic approach to sound.

Yamaha's YSP 4300 is available from retailers now for $1,999. It's joined by the similarly equipped YSP 3300 for $1,699.
