Samsung Set To Take On Apple & Microsoft With Smart New Galaxy 3 Tablet Range

By Ting Walker & David Richards | Wednesday | 17/07/2013

Samsung Australia released a new range of four Galaxy Tab 3 tablets today. Samsung's new Galaxy Tab 3 range is composed of several different sizes and specifications each aimed to suit individual customer needs, interests and price points, and as a bonus with each of these new models buyers will receive $170 worth of Apps as a bonus from Samsung.

The Korean Company believes that they will not only grow their share of the tablet market in Australia but they will take share away from competitors as the market grows by a predicted 46%.

Samsung Electronics Australia telecommunications Vice-President Tyler McGee said "'We recognised that tablets are becoming an essential device for Australians with the he most significant uptake being amongst families with teenage children" he said.

He said that pricing and their investing in research and development was key to the Company's success.

Th new range released in Sydney today includes 7-inch, 8-inch and 10.1-inch tablets, priced at $249, $349 and $399 respectively.

Also contributing to Samsung's success was the fact that the Company delivered a range of sizes that suited specific application use.

"Some of our competitors offer just one or two tablets in their range, but we offer a large range," he said.

He said that he did not believe that the market had reached a "saturation point" and that there was still plenty of upside in the Australian market for tablets and smartphones.

The Company that is tipping billions into research and development for tablets and smartphones believe that functionality, design and a good price gives the Korean an edge when competing in Australia.

The top of the range Galaxy Tab 3 10.1-inch tablet retails for $399 and will suit the technology needs of most homes and families. The largest of the Galaxy Tab 3 tablets is versatile enough to cater for the needs of the whole family. The tablet has also been designed as a media hub for home entertainment with the Company building in Dolby Surround for videos.

The Galaxy Tab 3 8-inch retails for $349 and is a handy sized tablet which has an 189ppi (pixels per square inch display) which is equally at ease as an e-book reader, as it is for playing games or for watching videos with Dolby Surround.

The new Galaxy Tab 3 7-inch tablet retails for $$249 and is a compact portable display which is can be gripped by one hand or carried in a pocket or purse, and is thinner than the previous model. A new 1.2GHz processor makes for quicker downloads and sharing between devices. The 7 inch model also has a 3 megapixel camera on the base that is paired with a 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera and has 8GB of internal storage which can be expanded to 32GB.

"Our research indicates that Australians want a diverse range of tablets, including screen sizes and price points and that is what we are delivering" Tyler said.

IDC predicts that the Australian tablet market will grow by 46 per cent this year due to falling prices, greater competition and more business use.
