Forget Chromebooks, Chromebase is coming to town.

LG Chromebase Hits April $599
Korean giant invades PC market with ChromeBase PC, 21:9 UltraWide Quad High Definition (QHD) 34" monitor and the skinny UltraPC, as shown at CES 2014.

LG, a new player in the IT space, displayed the goodies at a media preview yesterday, along with accessories including charging devices and hard drives.

ChromeBase PC (Model 22CV241), is the first of its kind all-in-one desktop running Google's Chrome (OS), seen in Australia. But don't confuse it with Chromebook.

This is an all-in-one PC, complete with a custom built white Chrome keyboard.

The 2.15" HD PC allows instant access to the Internet (8 seconds from boot up), and comes with a Chrome keyboard that has added functions, not on a standard keyboard.

LG goes light on hardware as everything is stored in a cloud but, still, has Intel Haswell Intel 4th Generation CPU, 2GB DDR3L-1333, 16GB iSSD, and 2 X 5 W speakers, which is pretty good audio for a desktop.

It comes with 100GB free Chrome cloud storage over 2 years.

You can also share content across mobiles and tablets, and access oodles of Chrome apps spanning productivity, games and entertainment.

LG says Chromebase is a simple way of interacting with a PC, for shopping, social media and is good for consumer and B2B use and is in talks with several B2B players already.

It has RRP of $599 and will be on sale in April, at all main retailers.

Australia was the second country to get these new devices outside the US.

"Google has evolved over time, and taken the market in new directions," says Russ Prendergast LG Australia IT Marketing Manager, moving from traditional PC hardware, to internet and cloud based systems.

"Chrome is riding the cutting edge new wave of behaviour", where users want to access the web instantly.

"We want to move into what these new waves are."

LG says its "confident" that the ChromeBase represents the wave of the future for desktops, and along with new Ultra PC notebooks will succeed where others big names failed.
