Is it a tab, or a laptop? Actually, its both. For $599. Meet Asus Transformer Book 2013

Inside the Transformer Book T100 is " something wonderful", says Intel's Sales Director, Andrew McLean - that is 4th generation Core and Atom processors, which promise longer battery life, faster computing.

Intel Director also hailed Asus' PC innovation, which "drives industry along by doing things differently," he told media at last night's Asus Transformer event in Sydney.

The maker of the original Transformer back in 2010, which broke the mould separating tablet and notebook form factor, by combining it in one device, has made 2013 version that's lighter, faster and cheaper.

Transformer Book T100 an "ultraportable laptop" 10.1-inch with an Intel Atom 'Bay Trail' quad-core processor, runs Windows 8.1. Its detachable HD display transforms it into a mobile tablet.

Transformer is skinny and light - the whole lot weights just over 1kg, and is one of the highlights of Asus new PC family.

It also comes with Microsoft Office Home & Student 2013, full versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote.

There's also 2GB RAM, 64GB eMMC storage, stereo speakers, Intel graphics for gamers, up to 11 hours of battery life.

"We believe the ASUS Transformer Book T100 will set a new benchmark in the mobile PC market," said Jackson Hsaio, ASUS Notebook Product Manager.

Its one of the lightest 10" tabs in the world, says Hsaio, who demonstrated T100's ability to change from tab to laptop in seconds last night.

The 2 in 1 era means goodbye to "era of 'or'" and saying hello to the "era of 'and'". You don't need a separate noteoook and tablet - you can have both. And at $599 its pretty good value for a 10 inch tablet and work device.

Asus also unveiled the "world first" 3 in 1 PC and Zenbooks, all with "something wonderful" from Intel inside, last night.
