Telco Battle For 'The One'

By Oonagh Reidy | Friday | 05/04/2013

We're all looking for the One, but you may have to be a Virgin to get it.

After much delay, HTC One went on pre-order Optus, Telstra, Virgin Mobile and Vodafone today at 9am, and will be on sale in-store from April 23 (same day as Samsung S4 is revealed).

Tipped as one of the best smartphones on the market, the hot new Android has 4.7 inch Full HD display, a cool HTC BlinkFeed with live info. feeds, a zero-gap aluminium unibody, an astonishingly good HTC Zoe camera, BoomSound with two speakers at the front of the Android phone, and comes in 4G or 3G.

The HTC One plans on Optus start at $46 ($30+$16 repayment), $49 and go up to $130.

But Telstra is going one better and giving those who pre- order the One free Beats Solo headphones valued at $199, which together with Beats Audio already on the One deliver authentic studio-quality sounds.

Telstra customers will also be the first to get HTC One in 'Stealth Black'.

The telco is flogging the HTC One on the $60 Plan with a $10 handset fee monthly with $600 worth of included calls and MMS, unlimited SMS to standard Aussie numbers and1GB of data.

HTC One can also be purchased outright in Telstra for $768.

But Virgin Mobile seems to have the best value of the lot if your a heavy Internet user with a huge 3GB data.

Its HTC One pricing is identical to Optus starting at $3 per month on the Big Plan $59, with $700 plan credit, 3GB data, Unlimited mobile calls & text Virgin to Virgin + free voicemail in Oz.

But you have to pay for a $100 plan to get the same 3GB level of Internet data on Optus and Voda $60 plan gets you only 1.5GB data.

Vodafone opened online pre-order half an hour earlier than Virgin at 9am today for the hot new Android and hot in the heels of Telstra announced it too would be giving a freebie pair of Beats headphone on a $60 plan (plus $3 phone fee).

Plans include $5 upfront on $60 over 24 months includes $700 calls & MMS, 1.5GB of data, Infinite calls to any Vodafone or 3 phones, Infinite TXT here & overseas, which would appeal to those who text abroad a lot.
