Samsung who are seriously driving marketing share in the memory and storage markets has released a nifty new external SSD drive at a launch that had to compete with crowds wanting to get a glimpse of Price Harry at the Sydney Opera House.

The new SSD storage which sells for $269 for a $250GB model uses Samsung's new 3D V-NAND technology which is set to be used in a new generation of Apple devices. 

I first saw this devices at CES and the first think I noticed is that it was extremely fast. 

Transfer speeds are up to 450 MB/s via USB 3.

Connection is via Micro USB 3.0 slot, not USB C, it's also backwards compatible with USB 2.0.

Users can transfer 100GB of movies in less than 5 minutes. 

Samsung claims the drive offer sequential read/write speeds of up to 450 megabyte per second with USB 3.0 and random read/write speeds of 8,000 inputs/outputs per second (IOPS) and 21,000 IOPS respectively.

The drive offers AES 256-bit hardware encryption with one user-set password.

The 500GB version is $469.

The 1TB version is $799.

The drive weighs just 30 grams, is 9.2mm thick, 71mm long and 53.2mm wide. It's also backed by a 3 year warranty.
