Western Digital has given its Apple compatible drives an upgrade and is now offering an unmatched 2TB offering.

Its My Passport for Mac portable hard drive range has been given the high speed treatment thanks to USB 3.0 technology. The next generation USB port will enable the transfer of data at speeds up to ten times faster than USB 2.0 with compatible ports.

In addition, WD is also offering a 2TB variant of the drive, which so far is unmatched in the category.

The range employs security features—including password protection and hardware encryption, and is compatible out of the box with Apple's Time Machine.

Ralf San Jose, Director of consumer Product Marketing, said: "My Passport for Mac with USB 3.0 adds the convenience of a very fast USB connection that includes added security features that mobile consumers need when away from home.
