New Myvu Video Goggles For iPod "Freaks" Slammed As Stupid

By David Richards | Friday | 13/06/2008

If you want to look “freaky” and an oddball take a look at the new Myvu Crystal video glasses which were recently launched in Australia for $399. They sell in the US for $299 some $100 cheaper and can be purchased from US online sites for as little as $10.00 shipping to Australia.

Designed to allow you to watch a movie while on the move the new iPod video glasses have failed to attract the interest of mass retailers or the Apple channel but despite this a new NSW Company called Myvu Australia believes there is a big future for the glasses in OZ.

John Davidson of the Financial Review wrote recently during a trial of the product in Australia that the reviewers got accosted in the street with comments like "You look really stupid man" and "you look freaky" or "You look like a bug".

As one reseller said "This is a product that is designed to appeal to wankers who like to flaunt it. To be seen wearing such a stupid pair of glasses simply to watch a video is ridiculous. You could buy a new 3G iPhone and get more enjoyment from watching a movie on a high res screen than trying to juggle a pair of ridiculous looking video goggles".

I first saw these glasses 3 years ago at thy CES trade show in Las Vegas and despite plenty of publicity no Australia distributor picked them up because of the price and the fact that it delivers a limited viewing experience.

The latest offering from Myvu, is the Crystal 701 which has a resolution of only 640 by 480 pixels and is available as VGA. It also has a 22.5 degrees field of and a focal distance of 2 meters.
