Bose, which is renowned for taking legal action against organisations that dared to use the words "Electronic Lifestyle," has lost a major trademark court case in the USA.
After years of litigation and over $1,000,000 in legal costs, CEDIA has won its battle with Bose for the right to keep its Electronic Lifestyles trademark. Two years ago lawyers for Bose threatened to sue SmartHouse for daring to call our publications Electronic Lifestyle magazines. Bose also threatened legal action against Pioneer Electronics in Australia when it launched a new home theatre kit in Australia which had been described as an Electronic Lifestyle device.
In the US the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board of the United States Patent and Trademark Office ruled that "Bose's accusations of fraud, abandonment and likelihood of confusion had no merit, and that Bose was guilty of laches, or unreasonable delay in bringing its claims against CEDIA," reported the trade association.
