  Samsung Enters MP3 Stereo Game

By Manisha Kanetkar | Friday | 29/09/2006

Samsung’s new K5 MP3 player features slide away 1.5 watt speakers and an integrated amp, essentially allowing it to double as a portable stereo.

According to the company, the player has a 1.7 inch LCD viewing screen and a "smart" touch screen that allows you to navigate the feature rich menu to access playlists, volume controls, FM radio with presets, alarm clock, photo and slideshow options.

The phone can support up to 4GB flash memory sizes, is Microsoft ‘PlaysForSure' accredited and can play MP3, WMA and DRM10 soundfiles. Transferring files from PC to phone is also easy, claims Samsung as it is simply a ‘drag and drop' process.

Samsung says the player has a 30 hour battery life – though this is reduced significantly to 6 hours on speaker mode.

"Everyone can think of a perfect use for K5. From working in the kitchen and tinkering in the garage to relaxing with friends, everyone will use K5 in a different way. Given the Australian love of the outdoors, K5 will even get a lot of use in the backyard, at family picnics, by the pool and even on the beach," said Samsung's Michael Apte.

RRP:
Samsung K5-QB (2GB) - $289
Samsung K5-AB (4GB) - $369
