CE Stock Supply Set To Impact Retailers This Xmas

By David Richards | Tuesday | 29/10/2013

The lack of premium products at retail stores is set to have an impact on retailers; claims the CEO of JB Hi Fi Terry Smart, among the products that will be difficult to get this Xmas will be the Apple iPad Mini and new gaming consoles from Sony and Microsoft.

Terry Smart claims that stock supply running into peak buying periods like Xmas and New Year is "always difficult" he said.

"This year is no different. Last year it was a lack of iPads and 8" tablets and this year we are facing further supply problems with the new Apple iPad Mini.

Geoff Mathews the CEO of Convoy the supplier of the highly popular JBL Charge, Monster headphones, Harmon Kardon home theatre kits and Bowers and Wilkins sound gear said recently. "We are currently shipping stock out as fast as we can. There will be shortages on some stock especially hot selling products like our JBL Bluetooth speaker which is proving very popular.

Several major brands have told ChannelNews that some retailers will miss out on stock supply "especially with popular products".

Later today Apple is set to release their latest financial results with analysts concerned that supply issues with the new iPad Mini will impact the Company's performance in the last quarter.

At today's  earnings call investors and commentators are set to question Apple CEO Tim Cook as to whether the less expensive 5c is selling through and where the Company is at with iPad supply. He is also set to be question about the Companies marketing strategies.

John Sculley, the iPod maker's former Chief Executive, claimed recently that Apple is struggling to maintain its relevance in an era where the hardware that generates mega profits is becoming commoditized. A screen, whether it's an iPad or an iPhone is simply a means to an end. Software and services is where it's at: but now Apple is giving away that software.
