Samsung has made a vital breakthrough for "ultra-high-speed" 5G technology by developing the first adaptive array transceiver technology operating in the millimeter-wave Ka bands for super fast cellular communications, it announced.
5G mobile networks provide data transmission "up to several hundred times faster than current 4G" or even 4G LTE Advanced due for launch this year, Samsung said in a blog.
"Samsung's new technology will allow users to transmit massive data files including high quality digital movies practically without limitation."
Users can watch 3D movies, games, real-time streaming of ultra high-definition (UHD) or 4K content, and remote medical services.
Although 4G Long Term Evolution networks are taking off globally (Telstra already has over 2 million 4G customers) but technology doesn't stand still.
In a recent interview with CN, JB Hi Fi Marketing Manager Scott Browning said the development of 4G LTE Advanced and 5G mobile technologies are "already underway."
There has been fears over 4G's ability to chew up Internet data at an unprecedented rate leading to higher mobile bills, but there are now bill management systems in place and plans are "very generous", he said.
