Australians appear to be abandoning their landline phones in a major way, a new survey by online comparison service iSelect suggests.

Aussies Hanging Up On Landlines
Its survey of 1100 Australian household "decision makers" found that just 16 percent use their landlines daily, while over a third either don't have one connected or simply never use it.

Among Australians aged over 65, 32pc still use their landlines every day - but when it comes to millennials, 52 percent say they never use their landlines.

Why is it so? Some 36 percent of respondents said cost was the most important factor - though in fact most would probably find using mobiles more expensive; while 28pc percent said reliability was most important, and 25 percent put it down to speed issues.
