Foxtel's hoped-for Netflix-killer, Presto, has announced that Google's Chromecast dongle has 'taken the lead' in devices used to stream its movies.

Presto Says Chromecast Most Popular Way To Watch
More than 20pc of Presto views have been seen via Google's Chromecast since Presto went live on the HDMI dongle in July this year, and is now Australia's 'favourite way' to watch Presto's movie collection.

Chromecast officially arrived in Australia on the 28th of May, 2014, with Presto as an official launch partner, alongside a free one month Presto trial, which Presto is keen to advise everyone ends on the 31st of August, 2014, presumably in the hope to encourage more people to sign up.

Shaun James, Director Presto & VOD, said, "Since launching Presto on Chromecast, we've had loads of great feedback from people enjoying Presto on the big screen, and now, with our new, simplified pricing, we're seeing an overwhelmingly enthusiastic response from new subscribers.

"We're thrilled to be offering a free one month Presto subscription to customers who purchased a Chromecast device since its Australian launch, but wanted to remind them that this great offer ends soon."

Earlier this week, Presto announced it had halved its monthly subscription cost to $9.99, with no lock-in contracts.

Presto's press release delightedly notes this has seen "a massive increase in traffic to the Presto site along with a big spike in Presto subscriptions", which would undoubtedly be welcome given a previous SmartHouse article noting that Presto only had 5000 subscribers at that time.
