Pure's Speaker Gives Sonos' Philosophy The 360 Treatment

By Tony Ibrahim | Friday | 12/10/2012

Music systems are a-changing. The days where a sound system was resigned to the corner of a single room are nearing extinction as companies begin to release multi-room speakers. Pure is the latest to jump on the bandwagon with their anticipated Jongo speaker.

What's a Jongo?

Pure's Jongo S340B resembles an ordinary satellite speaker with a twist. This little speaker houses four tweeters pointing out in every direction and an upwards firing subwoofer. The result is a 360 degree music experience that is managed via an app from your smartphone or tablet.

On the odd occasion you don't want all four tweeters jamming—say you've placed the speaker in a corner—there's the option of nominating stereo, mono or two-tweeter playback.

The speakers are small and light enough to be moved at a whim and include a rechargeable battery capable of ten long hours of music playback.

Connectivity technologies include Bluetooth, WiFi, the common auxiliary (3.5mm) input and USB.

Pure's Connect app will be compatible with Android and iOS devices and will be responsible for managing the modular system.

Sonos may have pioneered the modular speaker category, but Pure has proven they want a slice of that market with the Jongo. The Jongo will be coming to Australia before Christmas, with pricing to be announced closer to release.

2500 Moves On

In related news, Pure has refreshed its popular pocket digital and FM radio. The Move 2500 has noise isolating headphones, a battery that'll last 14 hours and an orange backlit display. Ten FM stations can be preset and software can be upgraded compliments of USB connectivity.

Available in brushed silver, Pure's Move 2500 has a $199 recommended retail price and is available now.
