No-Strings Attached Sound

By Tony Ibrahim | Wednesday | 25/09/2013

Wren's V5 range of speakers is where wooden veeners meet warm unwired sound.

Unwired, sonorous sound  flowing freely throughout  your home or office: that's  the Wren vision. To achieve it  they've laboured over the new  V5's functionality, design and  hardware.

Particularly impressive is the  wireless credentials Wren's speakers promote. Not only  do the relevant speakers support the 'lossless' playback  of music from Apple and Android devices, but their modular credentials allows you to  play synchronised music from  multiple Wren speakers easily.
Apple loyalists simply go for  the AirPlay model, the V5AP,  while Android advocates rely  on Wren's Play-Fi speaker, the

functional form. For starters  both the Apple and Android  variants have natural Rosewood or Bamboo timber cabinets. Although the wooden  veneer echoes sentiments of  traditional warm sound, a reinforced grille hints at the suite  of the cutting-edge technology powering the system. Apart from looking pretty, the good  folks at Wren-who, mind  you, are being led by former  Harmon International VP, Mike  Giffen-have designed the  speaker cabinet to elude the  nasty vibrations that tend to  pervert music at high volumes.  A lot of work has gone into  the production of sound that  is loud across a wider area.  Each variant of the V5 speaker  puts to work two 3-inch long  throw drivers and a pair of  wide dispersion 19mm soft dome tweeters, all powered by Intersil's D2 50 watt class D amplifier. Each driver has been set for the absolute optimum sound dispersion for audio characterised by a wide sound  stage.

Wren's V5 speakers  retail for $549.95.
