JB Hi Fi To Sell Sonos Wireless Sound System

By David Richards | Wednesday | 21/04/2010

EXCLUSIVE: Leading consumer electronics group JB Hi Fi is set to start selling the highly successful multi room wireless audio system from Sonos, which can be controlled from an iPhone or the new iPad, in the past the brand has only been sold via specialist dealers.

According to Terry Smart the CEO of JB Hi Fi, the Company has in the past stayed away from "complicated or integration products" but because of the success of Sonos with retailers like Best Buy in the USA  the Company is set to range Sonos branded products.

"This is a brilliant product that has had a lot of success overseas however we will need to merchandise the product in store with clear explanations of how it works".
"This is a wireless product and we are now seeing more and more wireless products coming to market. The new iPad is a classic example of a new wireless product that we believe will drive traffic into our stores and sell well. We still have a few things to sort out with the sale of the Sonos range relating to education and merchandising, but are looking forward to selling the brand in our stores".

Speaking to ChannelNews in Singapore, Smart said that he was looking to expand the range of products that JB Hi Fi sells with iPad's 3D TV and new Smartphones set to drive traffic in the second half".

"The first half of 2010 has slowed, however the latter part of the year due to several new product launches along with the introduction of new technology such as touch screens and 3D TV will drive traffic into stores" he said.

In the US Sonos has grown close to 100% during the past 12 months despite the economic downturn.

"The brand is proving popular with Apple iPhone and PC owners due to the fact that it allows one to control both music and video from a variety of devices including an iPad and iPhone" said a Best Buy executive.

Sonos recently added the new ZonePlayer S5 to its range of products. The unit is an all-in-one wireless music system with five built-in speakers powered by five digital amplifiers and rivals larger and more complicated audio equipment.

JB Hi Fi will have the Sonos product range exclusive for 12 months. The current specialist dealer network will also sell the product.
