First shown at the 2008 CES show in Las Vegas Sharp Australia has now rolled out a 108″(2.7 metres) HD LCD TV. The monster panel will go up against the highly popular Panasonic 103″ plasma TV which is proving popular with retailers, pubs and clubs and the odd rich individual.
The Sharp monster which is 93.9 inches high (2.3 metres) wide 52.9 inches wide and 107.8 inches on the diagonal, and outputs 2.07 million pixels (1,920 x 1,080) is set to be a big hit with shopping centre owners and organisations selling retail TV installations.

The Sharp LB-1085 features Full HD (1,920 x 1,080 pixels) utilising an ASV Low Reflection Black TFT LCD. The 176 degree field of vision combined with high brightness and high contrast claims to allow images to be seen clearly from virtually any angle, even in bright environments.
Other functions include active contrast, brightness sensor and quick shoot, a feature that improves response time during fast action sequences. Personal viewing preferences are possible via the video adjustment function which allows individual choices such as colour temperature, hue, saturation and 3D-Y/C.
The 108-inch screen also comes with three HDMI ports, DVI-I, two Component ports, S-Video, Composite video and audio, RS-232C input, and audio (RCA pin L/R) and speakers output terminals.
As applicable for Sharp’s range of Professional LCD Monitors, the LB-1085 is fully supported by Sharp’s Digital Signage Software, management software that distributes and displays programmed still images, videos and other content posted together with prescheduled data.
Sharp sees use of the LB-1085 in a variety of applications ranging from prestige home use, to boardrooms, reception areas, showrooms and movie theatres, as well as control rooms and large public display spaces. The LB-1085 breathtaking screen size, clarity of image and 24/7 reliability urther cements Sharp’s position as world leader in LCD technology.
According to Mark Deere-Jones the General Manager of Commercial at Panasonic, the core market for a screen of this size is “entertainment and convention venues, big corporate and retail locations”.
Panasonic’s 103″ plasma TV has held the top spot despite a price tag of $60,000 Adding inches on top of that will cost you quite some cash, at the tune of $18,000 per inch.
The 108-inch Sharp TV is available now with an RRP of $169,000 (Quotation applies).
