PS3 Forums have been running hot over the weekend over speculation that Sony’s new game Gran Turismo 5 won’t run unless
gamers submit to a 6-gig, 50-minute, up-front install process.
Now Sony has confirmed to Eurogamer that the game does require a compulsory HDD installation, but it only takes up 256MB of memory. For those who want to install the full 6.4GB estimates are that it vwill take around 50 minutes to an hour to install. Sony said 6.4GB installation remains optional and can run in the background
“GT5 gives users the option of an install,” a Sony statement claims. “This makes loading times throughout much faster but is not a requirement when first playing. If users choose not to install the data straight away it will do it in stages as news areas, tracks, etc. are accessed during normal gameplay.”
Gran Turismo 5 will be released in Australia this week.
